About the best thing I can say about Venice is that "I've been there." I got the distinct impression that I was visiting a city-sized theme park where the main goal was to separate the tourist from his money and once that had been accomplished they were to be ignored and forgotten.

Do you need to visit Venice? Well, if you're in the area and have an extra day or two (no more than that), sure, go for it.
